No, we get a song and it may be shitty or good depending on how much work you put on them. When you write a song you have a different layer for each instrument and you have to make it all come together in the end. It's even better if you work around a singular idea instead of just throwing a bunch around and hoping it all fits (like Opeth does), you get to work on what the sound should sound like and giving information through the instrumental other than just the lyrics.
